Many Americans find themselves in need of the services of a health or welfare agency. In the US, public health agencies fall under the umbrella of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. This is a Cabinet department of the United States government with the goal of protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services. They accomplish this through a variety of health-related agencies, such as the Health Resources and Services Administration, the National Institutes of Health, the Administration for Children and Families, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Food and Drug Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and several others.
